Central

The neighbourhood of Central can be found in the city of Oshawa, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Oshawa metropolitan area.

Transportation

People who want to reside in a compact community will enjoy the moderately pedestrian-friendly nature of Central; many daily errands can be run without a vehicle, and various businesses are reasonably close by. The bicycle is a good mode of transportation in Central as there are a fair number of bike lanes. Public transit riders may find limited options in Central by reason of the low service level. Thankfully, residents are served by approximately 10 bus lines, and bus stops are usually around the corner. However, Central is rather car friendly. It is convenient to find a parking spot, and nearby highways, such as Highway 401, are very easy to reach from any location in this neighbourhood.

Services

Schools and daycares are straightforward to get to as a pedestrian from any location in Central. In terms of food, it is generally practical for property owners in this part of Oshawa to purchase groceries by foot. Furthermore, there are a fair number of options within walking distance for those who care about restaurants and cafes. It is also a rather short walk to a good variety of clothing stores.

Character

Central has a character that caters to a fairly diverse group of people. Most areas in Central are quiet, as the streets are tranquil, although that is not the case close to the railway line or Highway 401. However, reaching parks, like Knights of Columbus Park and Eastbourne Park, is very easy from most locations in the neighbourhood since there are over 50 of them close by for residents to check out. Lastly, even though this area is not known for its lively atmosphere, its main streets can still be quite dynamic, and with its a few nightlife venues, there are options for nighttime activities.

Housing

In Central, roughly 40% of dwellings are single detached homes, and the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings, small apartment buildings, and duplexes. This part of the city offers mainly two bedroom and three bedroom homes. The proportions of homeowners and renters are about even. This neighbourhood experienced its main building boom before the 1960s, so most of the available homes are from this era.
