Situated within the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Shaugnessy is a neighbourhood within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

The car is usually the preferred method of transportation in Shaugnessy. Nearby highways are rather easy to access from any location in Shaugnessy, and it is very convenient to find a parking spot. On the other hand, the public transit service in this part of the municipality is not very frequent. Nevertheless, residents are served by a few bus lines, and bus stops are generally very close by. Shaugnessy is not especially conducive to cycling because there are few bike lanes, and the topography is not very flat. Most houses for sale in this neighbourhood are located in areas that are also not very suitable for those who like to travel as pedestrians since very few day-to-day errands can be run without the need to use a vehicle.

Services

In this neighbourhood, parents and their kids will usually be able to reach daycares by foot. In contrast, high schools are often a long trip away, and there are no primary schools in Shaugnessy. Concerning food, it is rarely an option for property owners in Shaugnessy to do their grocery shopping by walking. A limited selection of restaurants and cafes can be found as well.

Character

The character of Shaugnessy is exemplified by its relaxed atmosphere. A large number of locations within the neighbourhood have reasonably good access to green spaces, like Starboard Drive Park and Ecole Secondaire Du Sommet Park, since there are around 10 of them close by for residents to enjoy. Most areas in this part of Halifax are very quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour.

Housing

Large apartment buildings are the main housing type, representing about half of dwellings in Shaugnessy, and the remainder are mainly small apartment buildings and single detached homes. Most of the housing growth in this part of Halifax has happened after the year 2000. This area is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and two bedroom homes.
