Grand Lake is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Cars are an excellent transportation option in this community. It is very easy to park. Walking is not very feasible for home buyers in Grand Lake as many daily needs are practically impossible to carry out without a car. This area is also not very appropriate for cycling since there are very few bike lanes, and cyclists are faced with quite a few slopes.

Services

Buying one's groceries very often requires the use of a car in this part of the municipality. With respect to education, there are no high schools and no primary schools in this community. Moreover, parents may consider it very difficult for their schoolchildren to reach daycares by foot.

Character

The character of Grand Lake is exemplified by its slower-paced environment. Grand Lake is quiet, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue. Parks are sparse, which makes it occasionally challenging to get to them. Still, there are a few public green spaces nearby for residents to visit, like Laurie Provincial Park.

Housing

The homes in this part of the municipality are quite new, because about one third of its dwellings were built following the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s. Single detached homes and townhouses are the predominant housing type in this area. Roughly 95% of the dwellings in the community are occupied by homeowners and 5% are rented. There is a higher proportion of three bedroom homes in this part of Halifax.
