Vanier is a fairly pleasant part of Québec for cyclists. More precisely, there are a limited number of slopes, and Vanier features fairly good cycling infrastructure. Traveling as a pedestrian is also convenient for home buyers in this part of the city; many daily errands can be run without needing to get in a car, and numerous businesses are rather close by. The best method of transportation in Vanier is usually driving. It is convenient to find a parking spot, and the majority of real estate listings are a short drive from the closest highway, such as Autoroute Laurentienne. However, this part of Québec is not especially transit friendly. Nevertheless, house owners benefit from approximately 30 bus lines, and most residences are very close to a bus stop.

Services

It is very often practical for home buyers in this part of Québec to buy their groceries by walking. In addition, a restaurant is usually just around the corner, for instance on Rue Soumande, and a limited number of cafes is available as well. Home buyers can find a good number of nearby clothing stores. When it comes to education, in Vanier, parents and their schoolchildren will generally be able to get to schools and daycares by foot.

Character

Vanier has a character that appeals to a fairly diverse group of people. Vanier is quiet overall, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic, however some areas can be quite loud, especially closer to the railway line, the airport (Héliport de Québec (Sureté du Québec)), Autoroute Félix-Leclerc or Autoroute Laurentienne. However, there are about 40 parks nearby for residents to check out, such as Parc Victoria and Parc Victorin-Beaucage, and they are very well-distributed, which makes them easy to access. Finally, although the atmosphere is not the liveliest in this part of the city, its main streets can still be quite energetic, and finding one of the about 10 bars is very easy as they are generally situated in very convenient locations.

In Vanier, most buildings are small apartment buildings, but duplexes are also present in the housing stock. This area is primarily composed of one bedroom and two bedroom homes. About 70% of the population of this neighbourhood rent their home and 30% are owners.
