Le Sud-Ouest

The borough of Le Sud-Ouest is part of the city of Montréal, Quebec, which is situated in the Greater Montreal metropolitan area.

Transportation

No matter the means of transportation, it is very simple to travel in this part of the city. Owing to a multitude of nearby rapid transit stations with access to the Ligne 1 - Verte, Ligne 2 - Orange and Gare Centrale - Brossard, and over 100 nearby bus lines, commuting by public transit is very easy in Le Sud-Ouest. Traveling as a pedestrian is also very practical for house buyers in Le Sud-Ouest; running day-to-day errands is very convenient without the use of a car, and numerous businesses are moderately close by. A good number of residents in the area use their bicycle since it is an even ride to most destinations, and Le Sud-Ouest has reasonably good cycling infrastructure.

Services

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a very short stroll away in this area. Over 100 grocery stores are located nearby, and the best selection can be found on streets like Avenue Atwater. Likewise, those who enjoy dining out won't have to travel far in Le Sud-Ouest, where over 500 restaurants and over 50 cafes are available. Home buyers have access to many clothing stores within a short distance, for example along Rue Notre-Dame. As far as education is concerned, schools and daycares are very easy to get to without a car from any location in this part of Montréal.

Character

Le Sud-Ouest is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the feel of this area. Le Sud-Ouest is good for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic, however noise can be an issue near one of the railway lines, Autoroute Décarie or Autoroute du Souvenir. The greenery in this area is quite prominent as there are many tree-lined streets. Reaching public green spaces, like Parc Angrignon and Parc de l'Aqueduc, is very easy from the majority of locations within the borough since there are over 200 of them close by for residents to enjoy. Lastly, this part of Montréal has many areas to explore. Despite the fact that there are few nearby entertainment venues, there are crowds of people around most of the time, and with its over 50 bars, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink since they are generally located very close by.

Housing

Small apartment buildings are the predominant housing type, representing roughly half of dwellings in Le Sud-Ouest, and the rest are mainly large apartment buildings and duplexes. Around 40% of properties in this borough were built before the 1960s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s.
