The neighbourhood of West Shore can be found in the city of Pickering, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.
Transportation
Driving is a great transportation option in West Shore. The majority of real estate listings are a short car ride from the nearest highway, such as Highway 401, and it is easy to find a parking spot. However, public transit users may find few choices in this neighbourhood due to the infrequent service. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is connected by a few bus lines, and the nearest bus stop is usually around the corner. The bicycle is a reasonably good means of transportation in West Shore. It is occasionally difficult for pedestrians to navigate this neighbourhood because many daily needs are sometimes challenging to meet without a car.
Services
Property owners in West Shore often have to turn to a vehicle to purchase groceries. Nevertheless, getting to the nearest pharmacy and therefore some basic food items is usually very easy. A restaurant is commonly just around the corner, and residents benefit from a few cafes as well. With respect to education, primary schools and daycares are very easy to reach without a car from most houses for sale in this part of the city. On the other hand, parents and their kids may find it very hard to reach high schools as pedestrians.
Character
West Shore is a very good neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced environment. This part of the city is very quiet, as the streets are generally very tranquil - however noise can be an issue around Highway 401 or one of the railway lines. Lastly, it is easy to access parks from most locations in the neighbourhood and there are approximately 20 of them close by for residents to discover.
Housing
In West Shore, roughly 70% of buildings are single detached homes, and the rest are mainly duplexes. This part of the city experienced its largest building boom in the 1960s and 1970s, so most of the available housing stock is from this time period. This part of Pickering offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy around 90% of the properties in West Shore and 10% are rented.
