Bay Ridges

The neighbourhood of Bay Ridges is part of the city of Pickering, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is very often the preferred mode of transportation in this neighbourhood. It is easy to come across a parking spot, and it is a short car ride to the closest highway, such as Highway 401, from any home in this area. In contrast, Bay Ridges is not an especially convenient part of Pickering for moving around by public transit. Nonetheless, train stations, such as the Pickering on the Lakeshore East, are not especially far from the bulk of houses in the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is served by about 10 bus lines, and bus stops are usually around the corner. Getting around as a pedestrian in this area is not very popular, even though many daily errands can be run without needing to resort to a car. The bicycle is a somewhat poor method of transportation in Bay Ridges because there are a fair number of hills, and there are few bike lanes.

Services

Primary schools and daycares are very easy to access as a pedestrian from anywhere in this part of the city. On the other hand, this area does not contain any high schools. With regards to food, it is frequently feasible for home buyers in this neighbourhood to shop for their groceries as pedestrians. In addition, there is commonly a restaurant or cafe in close proximity.

Character

Bay Ridges is an excellent neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a relaxed ambience. The noise levels in Bay Ridges are especially low, as the streets are generally very peaceful. Access to public green spaces in the neighbourhood, like Douglas Park and Alex Robertson Park, is very hard since they aren't well-spread out. Still, there are approximately 20 parks close by for residents to check out.

Housing

About three quarters of the dwellings in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and the rest are rented. In this area, roughly one third of dwellings are single detached homes, while large apartment buildings and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. Around half of properties in this part of Pickering were built between 1960 and 1980, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 2000s. This part of the city has a good variety of housing sizes, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms.
