Most houses for sale in this neighbourhood are located in places that are rather well-suited for those who travel by walking; many common errands can be run without a car, and numerous businesses are moderately close at hand. Southdale is also rather cycling-friendly because this part of the city has reasonably good bicycling infrastructure. The best way to move around in Southdale is very often a car. Nearby highways, such as Highway 7 & 8, are very easy to drive to from anywhere in this neighbourhood, and it is convenient to come across a place to park. On the other hand, travelling by transit can be at times challenging in Southdale as a result of the low service level. Nonetheless, it is convenient to reach a nearby rapid transit station, such as Mill Station and Borden Station with access to the ION Light Rail, from most residences in the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood is linked by approximately 10 bus lines, and most houses are very close to a bus stop.

Schools and daycares are convenient to access without needing to get in a vehicle from any location in Southdale. Regarding eating, it is frequently practical for property owners in this part of the city to shop for groceries as pedestrians. Furthermore, there is typically a restaurant or cafe just around the corner.

The character of Southdale is exemplified by its calm atmosphere. The noise levels in this area are very low, as the streets are very tranquil. Finally, green spaces, like Concordia Park and Victoria Park, are especially well-distributed and there are approximately 40 of them close by for residents to explore, which makes it very easy to access them.

In Southdale, many buildings are small apartment buildings, and the remainder are mainly single detached homes. Around one third of homes in this part of Kitchener were built before the 1960s, while most of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes. Renters occupy roughly two thirds of the units in Southdale and the rest are occupied by owners.
