Downtown

The neighbourhood of Downtown Guelph is part of the city of Guelph, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Guelph metropolitan area.

Transportation

Regardless of the medium of transportation, it is reasonably straightforward to move around in Downtown. Downtown is a fairly pleasant part of Guelph for pedestrians; many common errands can be run without a vehicle, and a good number of businesses of different types can be found as well. Downtown is also moderately cycling-friendly. Owing to Guelph Central with access to the Kitchener, and around 10 nearby bus lines, home buyers can count on public transit to travel in this area. The best transportation option in this part of the city is often a car. Many properties for sale are a reasonably short drive from the nearest highway, and parking is quite easy.

Services

Daycares and schools are very easy to get to as a pedestrian from anywhere in Downtown. With respect to eating, house buyers in this part of Guelph will appreciate that a grocery store is always only a short trip away. Furthermore, there is generally a restaurant or cafe just around the corner, for example along Wyndham Street. It is also a rather short stroll to a good choice of clothing stores.

Character

No matter what type of character home buyers prefer in a neighbourhood, Downtown is a good option. Even though the atmosphere is not the liveliest in this neighbourhood with its a few nightlife venues, it is easy to find a place to grab a drink since they are generally located a short walk away. Downtown is fairly good for those who enjoy a quiet atmosphere, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour, although there are still several noisier areas, especially near one of the railway lines. It is easy to get to parks from most locations within the neighbourhood since there are over 50 of them nearby for residents to relax in.

Housing

In Downtown, about 45% of dwellings are single detached homes, and the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings and small apartment buildings. This area experienced its largest construction boom prior to the 1960s, so most of the available housing is from this time period. This part of the city is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes. There are equal parts owners and renters living in this area.
