Thornlea

Thornlea is a neighbourhood within Markham, Ontario, which is located in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

The best transportation option in Thornlea is usually driving. Nearby highways, such as Highway 404, are very easy to reach from any home in this part of Markham, and it is very convenient to access a place to park. However, travelling by transit can be difficult in Thornlea as a result of the low service level. Thankfully, there are various rapid transit stations on the Viva Purple. There are around 10 bus lines traversing the neighbourhood, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most homes. Thornlea is rather amenable to cycling. On the other hand, there aren't many pedestrians out on the streets of Thornlea, although meeting daily needs is easy without the use of a vehicle.

Services

House buyers in this neighbourhood will be pleased to learn that a grocery store is always only a very long distance away. In addition, there are a good number of opportunities for those who appreciate nearby restaurants and cafes. With regards to education, it is a reasonably short walk to access daycares and high schools from most homes for sale in this area. On the other hand, there are no primary schools in this part of Markham.

Character

Thornlea offers a slower-paced environment and will appeal to home buyers who enjoy spending time outdoors. Parks, including Bayview Reservoir Park and German Mills Meadow and Natural Habitat, are very well-distributed and there are about 30 of them close by for residents to unwind in, which makes them easy to reach. The noise levels in this part of the city are also quite low, as the streets are usually tranquil - although that is not the case closer to the railway line, Highway 404 or Highway 407.

Housing

Single detached homes and townhouses are the predominant housing type in Thornlea. This neighbourhood experienced its most significant building boom between 1980 and 1990, so most of the available housing is from this time period. This part of Markham offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Nearly 95% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder.
