Southdown

The neighbourhood of Southdown is part of the city of Mississauga, Ontario, which is situated in the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area.

Transportation

Regardless of the medium of transportation, it is straightforward to move around in this part of the city. The transit service in this part of the city is rather accessible by reason of various nearby rapid transit stations on the University Express, and a few nearby bus lines. It is also convenient for pedestrians to navigate Southdown; running daily errands is easy without a vehicle. Southdown is reasonably cycling-friendly since there are a good number of bike lanes.

Services

A grocery store is typically reachable within a short walk from any location in Southdown. In addition, this part of the city is a fairly good place in which to eat out, and a limited selection of cafes is available as well. It is also convenient to access a variety of clothing stores on foot. As far as education is concerned, in Southdown, parents and their kids will usually be able to access daycares and primary schools by walking. On the other hand, it can be difficult to reach high schools without a car.

Character

There are a lot of green spaces to enjoy in Southdown, despite its sometimes busy atmosphere. Public green spaces, such as Clarkson Park and Rattray Marsh Conservation Area, are very well-spread out and there are about 40 of them close by for residents to visit, making them easy to reach from most locations in the neighbourhood. Finally, as there are few pedestrians, this part of the city is relatively quiet, although those who are near the railway line may experience higher levels of noise.

Housing

In Southdown, around half of buildings are townhouses, while small apartment buildings and single detached homes are also present in the housing stock. Most of the housing growth in this neighbourhood happened in the 1960s and 1970s. This part of the city offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Roughly three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and renters make up the remainder.
