City Centre

Part of the Greater Toronto Area metropolitan area, City Centre is a neighbourhood within Pickering, Ontario.

Transportation

City Centre presents property owners with several alternative methods of transportation. With Pickering with access to the Lakeshore East, and about 10 nearby bus lines, the fairly good transit service makes transit a viable option for many people. Property owners who value being able to walk everywhere will also enjoy the fairly pedestrian-friendly nature of this neighbourhood; carrying out daily needs is easy without a car, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. Moving around by bicycle is occasionally difficult in City Centre because there are a good number of slopes, and there are a limited number of bike lanes. Thankfully, riding a bike is better in some pockets than others.

Services

Daycares and primary schools are straightforward to reach without the need for a car from anywhere in City Centre. However, this part of Pickering does not have any high schools. Concerning eating, house buyers in City Centre will value that a grocery store is always only a short trip away. Furthermore, there is generally a restaurant or cafe in close proximity. Residents have access to a good number of clothing stores within a short distance.

Character

City Centre is appealing, as it contains both vibrant and quiet areas. Although this neighbourhood is not known for its lively ambience, its busier streets are still quite energetic, and with its a few nightlife venues, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink since they are generally located around the corner. At the same time, this area is reasonably quiet overall, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic, however some parts can be quite loud, especially near Highway 401 or one of the railway lines. Parks aren't well-spread out, which results in them being very hard to access from most locations within the neighbourhood. Still, there are approximately 20 public green spaces close by for residents to unwind in, such as Brock Ridge Community Park and David Farr Park.

Housing

Around 30% of homes in City Centre were built between 1990 and 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s. In this neighbourhood, about two thirds of buildings are large apartment buildings, whereas the rest are mainly small apartment buildings. Homeowners occupy about 70% of the dwellings in City Centre and 30% are rented. This part of Pickering is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes.
