Southwest Cove

Southwest Cove is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is usually the preferred approach to get around in Southwest Cove. It is very easy to park. This community is not very appropriate for biking because there are a fair number of elevation changes, and the bicycling infrastructure is quite poor. Southwest Cove is also not very well-suited for pedestrians because almost no common errands can be run without needing to get in a car.

Services

In all cases, a car is required to buy groceries. As far as education is concerned, there are no high schools and no primary schools in Southwest Cove. Moreover, there are only a very small number of daycares and accordingly they can be a very long distance away.

Character

Southwest Cove is a great community to buy a house in for those who prefer a calm atmosphere. Southwest Cove is especially quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic. Parks aren't well-spread out, which makes it very hard to access them from the majority of locations within the community. Despite that, there are a few green spaces close by for residents to enjoy, such as Owls Head Provincial Park and Eastern Shore Islands Wilderness Area.

Housing

Around 90% of the dwellings in the community are occupied by homeowners and 10% are rented. The predominant housing types in this area are single detached homes and row houses. Around 30% of properties in this community were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were constructed pre-1960 and in the 2000s. This community is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes.
