Oceanview

The neighbourhood of Oceanview is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Driving is an excellent mode of transportation in Oceanview. It is a rather short car ride to the nearest highway from any location in this part of the municipality, and it is convenient to access a parking spot. In contrast, travelling by public transit is very difficult in Oceanview. Nevertheless, the neighbourhood is served by a few bus lines, and the closest bus stop is usually around the corner. Oceanview is not particularly cycling-friendly since bicycle riders are faced with a significant amount of elevation changes, and the bicycling network is not very comprehensive. It is also sometimes challenging for people travelling on foot to navigate Oceanview as few daily errands can be run without the need to get in a vehicle.

Services

It is often possible for home buyers in this area to do grocery shopping by walking. Likewise, those who like to eat in restaurants will have a good number of options, and residents are served by a few cafes as well. In terms of education, it is a very short walk to reach primary schools and daycares from any location in this neighbourhood. On the other hand, parents may find it difficult for their children to reach high schools as pedestrians.

Character

Oceanview is a great neighbourhood to buy a house in for those who prefer a calm ambience. Most areas in this part of Halifax are especially quiet, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Finally, it is easy to get to public green spaces in the neighbourhood since there are approximately 20 of them nearby for residents to check out.

Housing

In Oceanview, about 30% of dwellings are single detached homes, while large apartment buildings, small apartment buildings, and townhouses make up most of the remaining housing stock. This part of the municipality is primarily composed of three bedroom and two bedroom homes. About two thirds of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by homeowners and one third are rented. This neighbourhood experienced its biggest building boom between 1990 and 2000, so most of the available homes are from this time period.
