Governor Lake

The community of Governor Lake is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Governor Lake is an extremely good part of Halifax for driving. It is very easy to park. The bicycle is a rather poor means of transportation in Governor Lake as the bicycling network is not very comprehensive, and the topography is not particularly flat. Traveling as a pedestrian is also not very practical for property owners in this part of the municipality as almost no daily errands can be run without the need for a vehicle.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this area. Furthermore, parents and their children may find it very difficult to get to daycares without a car. With regards to eating, a vehicle is almost always needed in Governor Lake to access the nearest grocery store.

Character

Governor Lake offers a relaxed ambience. Governor Lake is wonderful for those who prefer quiet areas, as the streets are very tranquil. Green spaces aren't well-distributed, which makes it very difficult to reach them. Still, there are a few parks close by for residents to unwind in, such as Abraham Lake Nature Reserve and Twelve Mile Stream Wilderness Area.

Housing

About half of homes in Governor Lake were built pre-1960, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1990s. The substantial percentage of single detached homes in the housing stock of this part of the municipality is an important part of its character. Homeowners occupy nearly 95% of the units in Governor Lake and renters occupy the remainder. This area is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
