Fergusons Cove

Part of the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Fergusons Cove is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Driving is a great means of transportation in Fergusons Cove. Parking is generally easy. However, public transit riders may have limited choices in this area by reason of the low service level. Thankfully, residents benefit from a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far-removed from most houses. Traveling by walking is not very convenient for home buyers in this part of the municipality as almost no day-to-day errands can be run without the use of a vehicle. Getting around by bicycle is also difficult in Fergusons Cove because there is a significant amount of elevation changes, and there are few bike lanes.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in this community. Furthermore, parents may find it very difficult for their schoolchildren to access daycares by walking. As far as food is concerned, doing one's groceries usually demands the use of a vehicle in Fergusons Cove.

Character

Fergusons Cove is an excellent community to buy a house in for those who prefer a slower-paced ambience. Public green spaces, such as York Redoubt National Historic Site and Connaught Battery Park, are very well-spread out and there are a few of them close by for residents to visit, making it easy to get to them. This area is also wonderful for those who like a quiet atmosphere, as noise from streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue.

Housing

Roughly 80% of the population of this community own their home whereas the remainder are renters. The predominance of single detached homes in the housing stock of this area is an important part of its character. About one quarter of properties in this community were constructed after the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1960s. This part of the municipality is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes.
