Eastern Passage

Part of the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Eastern Passage is a community within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

Driving is a very good mode of transportation in Eastern Passage. It is especially convenient to access a place to park. On the other hand, the public transit service in Eastern Passage is not very frequent. Thankfully, the community is linked by a few bus lines, and most residences are very close to a bus stop. Eastern Passage is not very amenable to biking as the bicycling infrastructure is rather poor, and there is a significant amount of hills. This part of Halifax is also not very suitable for people who like to travel by foot as running common errands is impractical without needing to use a car.

Services

Families will welcome that no matter where their home is situated in Eastern Passage, both primary and secondary schools are nearby. However, there are only a very small number of daycares and therefore they can be a very long stroll away. In terms of eating, in all cases, a vehicle is required to purchase groceries. A small selection of restaurants is available in Eastern Passage as well.

Character

Eastern Passage offers a slower-paced ambience and will appeal to those who enjoy spending time in green spaces. This area is wonderful for those who need a quiet atmosphere, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, there are over 50 public green spaces close by for residents to relax in, such as Eastern Passage Commons and McCormacks Beach Provincial Park, which makes it easy to get to them.

Housing

Single detached homes and townhouses are the predominant housing type in Eastern Passage. About one third of homes in this community were built after the year 2000, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s. This area is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Around 85% of the dwellings in the community are occupied by homeowners while the rest are rented.
