Devon

The community of Devon is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

The best transportation option in Devon is usually a car. Accessing a parking spot is easy. This part of Halifax is not very suitable for those who like to travel by foot because running common errands is practically impossible without a car. It is also very difficult to commute by bike in Devon as there are a good number of hills for cyclists to brave, and this community is home to quite bad cycling infrastructure.

Services

There are no high schools and no primary schools in Devon. Likewise, there are only a very small number of daycares and consequently they can be a very long stroll away. As far as food is concerned, shopping for one's groceries very often requires the use of a car in Devon.

Character

The character of Devon is exemplified by its slower-paced environment. Most areas in Devon are very quiet, as the streets are generally very tranquil. Parks aren't well-spread out, which results in them being very hard to get to from most locations in the community. Still, there are a few green spaces close by for residents to unwind in, including Dollar Lake Provincial Park and Clattenburgh Brook Wilderness Area.

Housing

The predominant housing types in Devon are single detached homes and row houses. This area is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Roughly 95% of the population of this community own their home while the remainder are renters. This part of Halifax did not experience a single building boom; the construction of new dwellings in the community was spread throughout several decades in recent history.
