Part of the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Crichton Park is a neighbourhood within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

The car is usually the preferred transportation option in this part of the municipality. It is very easy to park, and nearby highways are very easy to access from anywhere in this part of the municipality. On the other hand, the public transit service in Crichton Park is not especially frequent. Nonetheless, homeowners benefit from about 20 bus lines, and it is very convenient to reach a nearby bus stop from most houses. Traveling by walking is not very popular in this neighbourhood, despite the fact that many daily errands can be run without the use of a car. In contrast, it is easy to commute by bicycle in Crichton Park.

Services

Primary schools and daycares are convenient to reach as a pedestrian from any location in Crichton Park. In contrast, there are only a limited number of high schools and thus they can be a long distance away. With respect to eating, it is challenging to access the closest supermarket as a pedestrian in this area. Moreover, there are a good number of choices in close proximity for those who value restaurants and cafes.

Character

No matter what type of character home buyers prefer in a neighbourhood, Crichton Park is a reasonably good option. Crichton Park is great for those who need quiet surroundings, as the streets are very calm. However, it is easy to get to public green spaces from most locations within the neighbourhood since there are about 40 of them close by for residents to check out. Finally, although this part of Halifax is not known for its lively ambience, with the bars in nearby neighbourhoods, it is rather challenging to find a place to grab a drink as they are generally located quite far away.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing roughly two thirds of buildings in Crichton Park, while large apartment buildings and small apartment buildings are the main alternatives in the housing stock. Most of the housing growth in this area took place in the 1960s and 1970s. This neighbourhood offers mainly four or more bedroom and three bedroom homes. Around two thirds of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas the rest are renters.
