The neighbourhood of Basinview is part of the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is situated in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Basinview is very car friendly. It is a short drive to the nearest highway from anywhere in this part of the municipality, and it is straightforward to park. On the other hand, the public transit infrastructure in Basinview is rather limited. Nevertheless, there are a few bus lines traversing the neighbourhood, and bus stops are typically around the corner. Commuting by bicycle is sometimes difficult in this part of the municipality since cyclists encounter quite a few slopes, and there are few bike lanes. Most homes for sale in this neighbourhood are located in areas that are also not very convenient for those who prefer to get around by walking because carrying out day-to-day needs is challenging without a car.

Services

It is convenient to get to the nearest supermarket without the need for a car from anywhere in Basinview. Residents benefit from a few restaurants and cafes as well. With respect to education, parents and their children will value that wherever their house is situated in Basinview, daycares and primary schools are nearby. However, there are no high schools in this neighbourhood.

Character

The character of Basinview is exemplified by its relaxed environment. This part of the municipality is wonderful for those who prefer a quiet atmosphere, as there isn't a lot of street noise or city clamour. Finally, there are approximately 20 green spaces nearby for residents to check out, like Bedford Barrens, and they are especially well-situated, which makes them easy to access.

Housing

Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing roughly 60% of dwellings in Basinview, while small apartment buildings and townhouses make up most of the remaining housing stock. This part of the municipality is primarily composed of three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about 80% of the units in the neighbourhood whereas the remainder are rented. Roughly 40% of properties in this area were built between 1980 and 1990, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1990s.
