Africville

Situated within the Greater Halifax metropolitan area, Africville is a neighbourhood within Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Transportation

This part of Halifax is very car friendly. Finding a parking spot is quite easy, and the majority of properties for sale are a rather short car ride from the closest highway. However, the transit infrastructure in this part of the municipality is fairly poor. Thankfully, homeowners benefit from approximately 10 bus lines, and bus stops are generally very close by. Africville is fairly bicycling-friendly. However, traveling by walking is not very popular in Africville, despite the fact that running common errands is convenient without a vehicle.

Services

It is challenging to get to the nearest supermarket on foot from most properties for sale in this neighbourhood. Moreover, there are a good number of options within a short distance for those who value restaurants and cafes. With regards to education, in this area, parents and their children will generally be able to reach daycares and schools by walking.

Character

Africville is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the ambience of this part of the municipality. Even though the atmosphere is not the most lively in this area with the nightlife venues in nearby neighbourhoods, it is very easy to find a place to grab a drink since they are generally located very close by. Africville is reasonably quiet overall, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic. Public green spaces, like Look Off Park, are especially well-spread out and there are a few of them close by for residents to unwind in, which makes it easy to access them.

Housing

In Africville, roughly 30% of buildings are large apartment buildings, while small apartment buildings and townhouses are also present in the housing stock. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of two bedroom and three bedroom homes. About 55% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. Roughly half of homes in this part of the municipality were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while most of the remaining buildings were built in the 1980s and the 2000s.
