Bedford

The community of Bedford can be found in the municipality of Halifax, Nova Scotia, which is located in the Greater Halifax metropolitan area.

Transportation

Bedford is an extraordinarily convenient part of Halifax for travelling by car. Nearby highways are moderately easy to reach from any location in this area, and it is very easy to access a parking spot. In contrast, the public transit system in this community is rather poor. Nevertheless, the community is connected by around 10 bus lines, and bus stops are not very far away from most residences. Getting around as a pedestrian is not particularly practical for home buyers in Bedford as few common errands can be run without the need for a vehicle. Commuting by bicycle is also at times difficult in this part of Halifax because travelling by bike is rendered strenuous by the often sloping terrain, and the cycling infrastructure is not very extensive.

Services

Property owners in Bedford generally need a car to shop for groceries in one of around 20 stores. Nevertheless, getting to the nearest pharmacy and consequently some basic food items is usually easy. A limited number of restaurants are available in this part of the municipality as well. As far as education is concerned, primary schools are easy to reach by foot from most houses for sale in Bedford. On the other hand, high schools are not particularly plentiful and therefore not always within walking distance.

Character

Bedford is a wonderful community to buy a home in for those who prefer a relaxed atmosphere. This part of the municipality is very quiet, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, most locations in the community have fairly good access to parks, such as Rocky Lake Junior High School Park and Blue Mountain Drive Park, since there are over 100 of them close by for residents to visit and a large number of properties for sale have a park around the corner.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing roughly 45% of buildings in Bedford, and the rest of the properties are mainly large apartment buildings and small apartment buildings. This part of Halifax offers mainly four or more bedroom and two bedroom homes. About 60% of the units in the community are occupied by homeowners whereas the rest are rented. Around 45% of properties in this community were constructed after the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 1980s.
