Transportation

Commuting by public transit is difficult in this neighbourhood. Thankfully, there are a few bus lines, and bus stops are not very far away from most houses. However, travelling by car is easy in Germain Street. It is convenient to come across a place to park, and the majority of properties for sale are a short car ride from the nearest highway.

Services

Daycares and schools are very easy to access as a pedestrian from any location in this neighbourhood. As far as eating is concerned, it is very easy to reach the closest supermarket without needing to get in a car from anywhere in Germain Street. Additionally, there are a fair number of opportunities in close proximity for those who value restaurants and cafes. A decent variety of clothing stores is also available within a reasonably short walking distance.

Character

Germain Street is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the ambience of this part of Saint John. Germain Street is excellent for those who like a quiet atmosphere, as there are usually low levels of noise from traffic. However, public green spaces are especially well-located and there are approximately 10 of them close by for residents to enjoy, which makes them easy to access. Finally, although the ambience is not the liveliest in this part of Saint John, its busier streets can still be quite energetic, and finding one of the about 10 bars is very easy as they are generally situated in very convenient locations.

Housing

Germain Street experienced its largest construction boom pre-1960, so most of the available housing is from this time period. The substantial percentage of small apartment buildings in the housing stock of this neighbourhood is an important part of its character. Around 85% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by renters whereas the rest are occupied by owners. This part of the city is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes.
