South Surrey

Part of the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, South Surrey is a neighbourhood within Surrey, British Columbia.

Transportation

South Surrey is reasonably cycling-friendly as the bicycling network is extensive. This area is also a fairly pleasant part of Surrey for pedestrians; many day-to-day errands can be run without a vehicle. This part of the city is very car friendly. It is convenient to find a place to park, and most houses for sale are a reasonably short drive from the closest highway, such as Highway 99. However, this neighbourhood is not very transit friendly. Thankfully, there are around 10 bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are commonly very close by.

Services

In South Surrey, parents and their kids will usually be able to access daycares and schools as pedestrians. In terms of food, the closest supermarket in South Surrey is typically only a rather short walk away. Likewise, a restaurant is often just around the corner, for instance along 152 Street, and there are also approximately 30 coffee shops in this part of the city.

Character

South Surrey offers a relaxed environment and will appeal to home buyers who enjoy spending time in green spaces. This part of the city is very quiet overall, as there tend to be low levels of noise from traffic. Finally, there are over 250 public green spaces nearby for residents to discover, including Barbara Creek Park and Little Campbell River Hatchery, and they are very well-distributed, resulting in them being easy to reach from the majority of locations within the neighbourhood.

Housing

Single detached homes are the predominant housing type, representing about half of dwellings in South Surrey, whereas the remainder are mainly small apartment buildings. About 45% of properties in this neighbourhood were constructed after the year 2000, while many of the remaining buildings were constructed in the 1960s and the 1980s. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy about 80% of the dwellings in South Surrey and the remainder are rented.
