Sea Island

Part of the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Sea Island is a neighbourhood within Richmond, British Columbia.

Transportation

Active property owners will welcome the very cycling-friendly nature of Sea Island. More specifically, there are a large number of bike lanes. Sea Island is also rather well-suited for those who prefer to travel on foot; many daily needs can be met without a car, and plenty of businesses are reasonably close by. Driving is a great transportation option in this neighbourhood. Parking is easy. In contrast, Sea Island is not an especially pleasant part of Richmond for travelling by public transit. Nonetheless, it is convenient to come across a nearby rapid transit station, including Aberdeen Station @ Platform 2, Aberdeen Station @ Platform 1 and Templeton Station @ Platform 1 with access to the Canada Line, from the majority of houses in the neighbourhood. There are about 20 bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and it is especially convenient to find a nearby bus stop from most properties.

Services

High schools are not particularly numerous in Sea Island, and thus not always within a short distance, and there are no primary schools. Furthermore, parents may find it very hard for their children to access daycares by walking. When it comes to food, in vast majority cases, a car is needed to purchase groceries in one of about 40 stores. Nevertheless, pharmacies are generally easy to access by foot and supply some staple foods. There are also over 50 restaurants in Sea Island.

Character

Sea Island offers a broad selection of green spaces to enjoy, as well as some areas with a vibrant feel. There are over 50 green spaces close by for residents to explore, including Sturgeon Bank Wildlife Management Area and Iona Beach Regional Park, making it very easy to access them. This neighbourhood can be relatively noisy, as traffic during rush hour can occasionally be loud.

Housing

About three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home whereas renters make up the remainder. Single detached homes are the most common housing type, representing around 80% of buildings in this part of Richmond, and the rest are mainly duplexes. A majority of the housing growth in this neighbourhood took place before the 1960s. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.
