Downtown

Part of the Greater Kamloops metropolitan area, Downtown Kamloops is a neighbourhood within Kamloops, British Columbia.

Transportation

Moving around by bicycle is easy in Downtown. Downtown will also appeal to people who value residing in a compact community because it is reasonably walking-friendly; running daily errands is convenient without the use of a car, and there are also a fair number of businesses nearby. The public transit service in Downtown is not especially frequent. Nonetheless, there are about 10 bus lines crossing the neighbourhood, and bus stops are generally around the corner. In contrast, Downtown is very car friendly. It is easy to come across a place to park, and it is a rather short drive to the closest highway from any location in this part of Kamloops.

Services

In Downtown, parents and their children will generally be able to get to schools and daycares by walking. As far as food is concerned, the closest grocery store in this area is usually only a rather short distance away. Furthermore, Downtown is a fairly good place in which to go out to eat or go to a cafe. It is also convenient to get to a selection of clothing stores on foot.

Character

Downtown is a great neighbourhood for home buyers who enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities. Even though this part of Kamloops is not known for its lively ambience, finding one of the approximately 10 bars is very easy because they are generally located around the corner. However, public green spaces, including Overlanders Park and Riverside Park, are very well-spread out and there are over 50 of them close by for residents to unwind in, making them easy to reach.

Housing

About 40% of dwellings are small apartment buildings, making it easy to find apartments in Downtown, but large apartment buildings and single detached homes are also present in the housing stock. This neighbourhood offers mainly one bedroom and two bedroom homes. About 55% of the units in the neighbourhood are occupied by renters and owners occupy the remainder. Roughly 30% of homes in this neighbourhood were constructed in the 1960s and 1970s, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built pre-1960 and in the 1990s.
