Part of the Metro Vancouver metropolitan area, Highlands is a neighbourhood within District of North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Transportation

Getting around by foot is moderately practical for residents in this neighbourhood; many daily needs are convenient to meet without a car, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. It is also easy to commute by bike in Highlands. The car is very often the best approach to move around in this neighbourhood. It is easy to park, and it is a reasonably short car ride to the closest highway, such as Trans-Canada Highway, from any home in this area. On the other hand, the public transit infrastructure in Highlands is not very practical. Nevertheless, there are approximately 10 bus lines, and bus stops are ordinarily very close by.

Services

It is very easy to get to both a general and a specialty grocery store as a pedestrian from any location in Highlands. Additionally, there are a fair number of choices within a short distance for those who value restaurants and cafes. It is also convenient to reach a variety of clothing stores without the need for a vehicle. In terms of education, it is a very short stroll to get to primary schools and daycares from anywhere in Highlands. On the other hand, there are only a few high schools and thus they can be a rather long stroll away.

Character

Highlands is a very good neighbourhood to buy a home in for those who prefer a relaxed atmosphere. This area is very quiet, as the streets are generally very calm. Lastly, it is very easy to access parks from most locations within the neighbourhood since there are about 40 of them close by for residents to explore.

Housing

In Highlands, many buildings are single detached homes, and the remaining properties are mainly duplexes. This neighbourhood has a good choice of housing size options, ranging from lofts to four or more bedrooms. About three quarters of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and one quarter are renters. The buildings in this neighbourhood are quite old, because around 45% of its dwellings were constructed pre-1960, while the majority of the remaining buildings were built in the 1960s and the 2000s.
