The neighbourhood of Downtown St. Albert can be found in the city of St. Albert, Alberta, which is situated in the Greater Edmonton metropolitan area.

Transportation

Downtown is moderately suited for biking as Downtown features good bicycling infrastructure. Home buyers who appreciate living in a compact community will also enjoy the pedestrian-friendly character of Downtown; running common errands is convenient without the use of a vehicle, and a fair number of businesses of different types can be found as well. The best way to get around in this part of St. Albert is usually driving. It is especially convenient to park, and it is a very short drive to the nearest highway from any home in Downtown. In contrast, commuting by transit can be challenging in Downtown by reason of the service's low frequency. Nonetheless, homeowners are served by approximately 10 bus lines, and the closest bus stop is generally very close by.

Services

A general and a specialty grocery store is always only a reasonably short walk away in this part of St. Albert. There are a few supermarkets in this neighbourhood, and the best selection can be found on streets such as St. Thomas Street. Additionally, those who like to dine in restaurants or cafes will have a fair number of choices in this part of the city, for example on St. Anne Street. It is also easy to access a number of clothing stores without the need for a vehicle. Character

Downtown offers an unique mix of areas that are both busy and quiet. Although this part of St. Albert is not known for its vibrancy, with the nightlife venues in nearby neighbourhoods, it is easy to find a place to grab a drink since they are generally located a short walk away. At the same time, this area is quiet overall, as the streets tend to be quite peaceful, however noise can be an issue closer to the railway line.

Housing

In Downtown, about 45% of dwellings are single detached homes, whereas the remainder are mainly large apartment buildings and small apartment buildings. This neighbourhood is primarily composed of four or more bedroom and two bedroom homes. Homeowners occupy roughly three quarters of the units in Downtown and the remainder are rented. The homes in this neighbourhood are relatively new, because about 30% of its dwellings were built in the 1960s and 1970s, while many of the remaining buildings were built in the 1980s and the 1990s.
