It is also a short distance to a very good choice of clothing stores. As far as education is concerned, in Villeray, families will almost always be able to reach schools and daycares without a car.

Villeray is a "jack-of-all-trades" when it comes to the ambience of this area. Villeray is quiet, as noise from the streets and other parts of the city is rarely an issue, although there are still several louder sections, especially near Autoroute Métropolitaine or the railway line. This neighbourhood also features a good amount of greenery; reaching parks, like Parc Jarry and Parc Henri-Julien, is very easy from most locations within the neighbourhood since there are over 50 of them nearby for residents to check out. Residents will also find that many streets have reasonably good tree coverage. Finally, there are a large number of things to do in this area to discover. Even though there is a small selection of entertainment venues, the streets are usually busy with people, and places to go out at night are well-spread throughout the neighbourhood. Main streets, like Rue Saint-Hubert, are very good for those who enjoy going out.

In Villeray, the majority of dwellings are small apartment buildings, while duplexes are the main alternative in the housing stock. This part of Montréal is primarily composed of two bedroom and one bedroom homes. Renters occupy roughly 70% of the units in the neighbourhood while owners occupy the remainder. Most housing in this neighbourhood was built prior to the 1960s, during its biggest building boom.
